Dr. Gao's Bio

Billy Gao, M.D. is board certified in neurology and neurocritical care. He has more than 13 years of clinical experience in neurocritical care, vascular neurology, and general neurology.

 

Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, Dr. Gao has seen how innovative technology has been leveraged to improve quality of life. He has an ongoing interest in how medical and technological advancements can be utilized to best serve our patients.

 

Dr. Gao received his medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine and completed his internal medicine internship and neurology residency at the Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon. He completed his two-year neurocritical care fellowship at the California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC).

 

Upon completion of his fellowship training at California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC), he joined their Stroke and Neurovascular department as a neurointensivist, treating patients with life-threatening neurological disease integrating telemedicine with traditional bedside medicine to efficiency and expeditiously treat patients in neurological crisis.

 

Dr. Gao joined Current Neurology Solutions in Pearland, Texas in 2023, as an inpatient tele-neurology service provider. In his clinical practice, Dr. Gao manages high-risk injuries and diseases of the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nervous system to help ensure our neurology patients are optimally managed. 

 

Before joining Current Neurology Solutions, Dr. Gao worked at Kentfield Marin in California providing care to patients in the neurorehabilitation phase of their recovery. He has also treated patients at Kaiser Permanente in San Rafael, California as a consultant neurohospitalist. Additionally, he provided acute stroke care on the San Mateo County Mobile Stroke Unit; the only mobile stroke unit operating in Northern California.

 

In his free time, he enjoys building Lego sets and model kits with his kids, watching shows with his wife and plotting their next travel adventure.
